What is a monitrice?"Monitrice" is derived from French with the meaning 'a woman who watches over,' or 'advizes.' In the context of childbirth, a montrice monitors vitals such as blood pressure, fetal heart tones, assessing labor progress, conducting newborn assessments, providing breastfeeding support, and offers prenatal education. Addionally, monitrice also offer the practical phsycial and emotional support doulas (non-medical paraprofessionals) provide.

- 2-3 prenatal meetings to discuss birth planning, provide nutritional guidance, discuss holistic comfort measures for pregnancy and birth, and plan for the postpartum period
- on-call for you starting at 36 weeks
- maternal and fetal monitoring and doula support in your home until your midwife team arrives or you transfer to hospital
- lactation support, newborn assessment, and emotional & informational support
